Okay, real talk—top console action RPGs have been living rent-free in my head since I was a greasy teenager in Ohio, and honestly? They still own me at 34. Like, last Thursday I was supposed to adult—do laundry, answer emails, whatever—but instead I’m cross-legged on my sagging couch at 2 a.m., cat on my lap, Flamin’ Hot dust on my fingers, completely lost in Stellar Blade because the combat just hits different. My girlfriend texted “you alive?” and I sent back a selfie of me with demon blood on the screen and actual Cheetle on my face. Embarrassing? 100%. Worth it? Also yes.
Why I’m Still Addicted to Top Console Action RPGs in 2025 (Send Help)
Look, I’ve got bills. I have a real job. But the second I hear that perfect “clink-clink-shwing” of a stamina-break punish in a good action RPG on console, my brain just blue-screens. It’s Pavlovian at this point. Here’s the current lineup that’s been straight-up wrecking my sleep schedule:
The Ones That Actually Slap (Top Console Action RPGs Tier List, My Totally Biased Version)
- Stellar Blade – Yeah, yeah, everyone made the “waifu” jokes. Whatever. The combat is crisp as hell, the parry window is unforgiving in the best way, and I legit yelled “LET’S GOOO” out loud when I finally perfect-parried the final boss. My neighbors probably hate me.
- Black Myth: Wukong – Bro, when you transform into the giant monkey and just start swinging that staff like you’re personally offended by physics? I felt that in my soul. Also I cried during the ending cutscene and I will NOT be taking questions.
- Rise of the Ronin – Team Ninja doing open-world Nioh but less “die 400 times to the same goat”? Sign me up. The grappling hook rope thingy is dumb fun and I spent an embarrassing amount of time just yeeting myself off rooftops.
- Lies of P – Pinocchio but make it Bloodborne. I laughed when I first saw it, then spent 80 hours getting my ass handed to me by a puppet with a rapier. 10/10 would suffer again.

Hidden Gem Top Console Action RPGs Nobody Talks About (But Should)
- Enotria: The Last Song – Italian folklore Souls-like with mask-swapping builds? I went in blind and came out obsessed. The parry sound alone deserves an award.
- Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – Dropped this year and I’m still recovering. The plague doctor aesthetic + bird transformation mechanic had me acting unwise.
The Ones That Promised Top Console Action RPGs Greatness… And Broke My Heart
- That one everyone hyped with the dragon riding? Combat felt like swinging a pool noodle. Refunded in 45 minutes, no ragrets.
- The “Destiny killer” ARPG that launched with 17 currencies and a battle pass? Hard pass. My ADHD can’t.

Final Thoughts From Your Friendly Neighborhood Degenerate
Anyway, yeah. Top console action RPGs are still my Roman Empire. I’m sitting here in sweatpants that haven’t been washed since the Lies of P DLC dropped, cat snoring on the PS5 (it’s fine, she’s basically a heatsink at this point), and I have zero regrets. Except maybe the Cheetos incident. And the time I rage-quit so hard I threw my controller and it bounced into a bowl of cereal. Milk everywhere. Tragic.

If you’re chasing that next hit of dopamine + skill expression + story that punches you in the feelings, grab one of these. Or all of them. I’m not your mom.
