Why I’m Weirdly Qualified to Rank the Best Soccer and Basketball Games 2025
Look, I’m not a pro gamer, I’m not even good. I’m the guy who spent $70 on EA FC 25, rage-quit Ultimate Team in October, then came crawling back in March because Futties brought back Prime Icon Ronaldo. I’ve also dropped 300 hours into NBA 2K26 MyCareer as a 6’8″ point-forward named “Jersey Mikes” because I thought it was funny at 2 a.m. So yeah, my credentials are trash, but my pain is real.
Tier S+ – Games That Made Me Forget to Eat
- EA Sports FC 25 (yes, still calling it FIFA, sue me) The gameplay finally feels next-gen on PS5 Pro. Through-balls actually go where I aim them?? I cried. Career Mode letting me buy the actual New York Red Bulls and turn Red Bull Arena into a 40k-seat monstrosity was… chef’s kiss. Only downside: pack weight is still criminal.
- NBA 2K26 The new “Era” mode that lets you start in 2025 and play forward into the Wemby/Coooper Flagg future actually works?? I simulated to 2032 and Bronny Jr. is a 99 overall. I need help.
Tier S – Stupidly Addictive (Send Help)
- College Football 25 (I know it’s not basketball or soccer but the Dynasty mode leaked into my dreams)
- eFootball 2025 – yeah I said it. Free to play, actually fun now, and I packed Messi in a free pack. I’m still shaking.
Tier A – Great but I Have Notes
- NBA Live 25 (EA remembered they still make this??) Shockingly competent. The streetball mode in Venice Beach at sunset hits different. Still can’t touch 2K though.
- UFL (the new rival to EA FC) Gameplay crisp, but the menus look like a 2012 Android app. I respect the hustle.
The One That Broke Me – Worst of the Best Soccer and Basketball Games 2025
FIFA Street reboot that never happened. I waited all year. Still coping.
My hot take: 2025 was the first year in a decade where both soccer AND basketball games were legitimately great at the same time. Usually one genre eats while the other starves, but this year? Feast.
